I started at the “Willem Barentz” Maritime Institute in the year 2002, to become a Maritime Officer. After one year of college I went to sea at a small chemical tanker of Vopak Shippping (nowadays named Broere Shipping). The voyage was only for introduction purposes and the duration was six weeks.

After these six weeks I went back to school and completed the second year. After this year I had my first traineeship onboard of a container vessel owned by P&O Nedlloyd. This traineeship was for a period of 5 months.

At this moment I’m in the final year of my study. I’m specialising in a special type of vessel called a “hopper dredger”. For my second traineeship I hope to have the opportunity to be onboard of a hopper dredger.
